The “Cutest Dog Competition” is getting…ugly. The owner of Momo, named after Mozart, is crying foul that Momo is running neck and neck with a new challenger, Stephen Colbert el dos, a Pomeranian Chihuahua mixed-breed puppy from Atlanta, Georgia. Why cry foul? Cara McCool said. “It’s just unfortunate. MoMo is named after a famous person too, but he’s dead.”

from Fox DC:

Animal Control officers did a little ‘croc hunting’ earlier this week, after receiving call about a stray alligator in Reston-area woman’s yard.
Officials say the 5 pound, approximately 2 feet and 6 inches long alligator appeared to be uninjured and in good health.

Pabst, a boxer-mix, was named the winner of the 2009 World’s Ugliest Dog Contest held at the Sonoma-Marin Fair.  (kinda ironic that “Pabst” won a blue ribbon….)

A Frederick County woman could face animal cruelty charges after officials found 192 live cats and seven dead ones in a mobile home.

Sheriff’s Office Major Robert Eckman said 58-year-old Linda McLaughlin is the owner of the cat-filled double-wide trailer. Eckman said the animals living in McLaughlin’s home also showed the effects of neglect and inhumane conditions.

McLaughlin could face charges of animal cruelty and animal neglect. She was not present when her cats were confiscated and has been hospitalized in Prince William County since Friday.

Officials said Wednesday that the home contains so much cat waste and cat hair that it will probably be demolished.”

“Today, Jellyfish Lake seems as much jelly as water. This makes for a surreal diving experience, moving around in water that is itself a moving gelatinous mass.”
